Unique baby names are a matter of personal preference. If you so choose, you can use words from the dictionary, made up words and slang words as names.

For example, AUDIO SCIENCE, a celebrity chose that name for their child. If you wanted to make a unique baby name like that then you could simply name your baby "celebrity," "swingshift" or "web page." Really any old name would work.

I am not a fan of this method, but to each his own.

Feeding a picky toddler

When my toddler was an infant, she would eat anything that I fed her. She ate all types of fruits, vegetables and meats (even liver). I thought that if I gave her a large variety of healthy foods while she was young, I wouldn’t have any problems when she got older. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Once my daughter became more independent, she started to regularly turn away foods that she used to like. The only food that she would willingly eat was spaghetti and I couldn’t let her eat spaghetti all the time. Back when I used to babysit for my sister, I had the same problem with her kids. So, luckily I already knew how to handle my daughter's eating problem. There were a few things that I had to try, because I knew that not all methods would work on all kids.

First, I tried pretend eating her food. I would make her a plate and if she turned it away, I would pull up a chair and proceed to “eat” it. This method worked on only a few of my nephews, so as I expected, it didn’t work on my daughter.

Next, I tried using a booster seat and letting her sit at the “grown up” table with us while we ate. I thought this one would work because it worked on about ten of my twenty-five nieces and nephews. Unfortunately, this one didn’t work either. It left us with a big mess to clean up as well because she tipped her plate on to the floor (accidentally).

After that, I tried the method that I wished I tried the method that I had tried first. We gave her spaghetti, her favorite food, with corn, peas, and other assorted vegetables mixed in it. At first, she turned it away, but then I said, “Look, its spaghetti.” She took the plate back and ate a bite. She laughed, and then she proceeded to pick the vegetables out of the spaghetti one by one and ate them.

Since then she has been willing to try new foods. She eats meat, vegetables and fruits, but if she doesn’t like it she will still spit it back on the plate. I am happy with the results and the best part is that it only took one try.

Disciplining your child with out spanking

When my baby was in the crawling stage, discipline was easy. She would joyfully play in the playpen for hours and the only mess ever she made was during meal times or on her own clothes. I knew it wouldn’t be this way forever, but time went by so fast, I barely noticed it.

Once she learned to walk things were totally different. She loved to explore and get into things that she shouldn’t. She would make messes with anything she could find (e.g. newspaper, magazines, and juice) and laugh hysterically the whole time. It was a full time job cleaning up behind her, but I didn’t mind, because it was all innocent.

Soon after the walking stage, she began talking and that’s when the discipline problems started. She started biting us, saying “NO!” when we told her to do things, and she would even throw objects at us. My husband and I immediately decided to put an end to her bad behavior. We already knew a few methods that we learned by helping to raise our nephews and nieces in the past. From our experience with our nephews and nieces, we learned that that consistency is the most important thing when disciplining.

My husband and I both had to cooperate to make it work. We constantly had to watch what she was doing to catch any bad behavior and stop it immediately. This gave our daughter the impression that even if we aren’t around, we could see what she is doing. When we caught her doing stuff that she knew was wrong, we would punish her by taking her favorite toy or telling her “NO!” in a loving, but stern voice.

Her bad behavior faded away in a little over a week. She no longer bites, throws, or talks back. Toddlers are very impressionable. If you can get him or her to be well behaved early in life, chances are you will have no problems in the future. Just remember to be consistent

A step in a new direction

I am currenty working in mortgages and I decided to share my knowledge. I have been working as a mortgage broker for a while, but i just recently started doing loan modifications. I gave so many ARM loans in the past that I felt like this was the right thing to do.

Bringing home a baby when you have a toddler

As it got closer to my due date, my husband and I couldn't help but wonder... "How is Danielle (our current toddler, 17 months) going to handle having a little sister?" She plays well with her cousins, she shares, and she even tries to cheer them up if they cry. We thought, would she be the same way if her cousins were here 24/7? We had no idea and we kept wondering, right up until the miracle happened.

On Feb 24th, we had our second child. When we first brought her home, all she did was slept and ate, so our toddler didn't really notice her. After a few weeks, when the newborn required more attention, our toddler really started to notice. She would do things like trying to move the baby out of our arms while we held her, climbing up the side of the crib to get in, stealing the pacifier, bottle and other things that implied she still wanted to be the only baby.

We figured that the root of her new behavior was wanting more attention then we could give her at the time. We tried tons of methods that we read in books and online, but none of them worked. We finally decided that we would have to think like a toddler in order to figure this out. My husband and I both knew what it felt like to have to share your parent’s attention after being an only child for so long, so we tried things that would have cheered us up.

The first thing we tried was holding the newborn upright in a comfortable position, taking her hands, and making her play peek-a-boo with our toddler. That worked great. Our toddler immediately began to warm up to our newborn.

The next thing we did was letting our newborn pretend to eat our toddler. We would take our toddlers hand and put it near the newborn. We would then have the newborn lean forward and I would make the sound, "Yum, yum, yum!" Our toddler thought it was the funniest thing in the world.

After playing a few safe games involving both of them, things are back to normal. She brings the baby's bottle when she cries, she dances and makes noise to try to calm her down, and she even whispers when the baby is a sleep.

Three steps to name your baby.

When I found out I was pregnant with my first child, I panicked. Not because I was pregnant, I was happy about that... I panicked because it is so hard to choose a name a baby!

I remember the times when my sisters and brothers would call me with questions like, "Do you like this name?", "What about this name?" I would always tell them the same thing, "Don't ask me, I am terrible at picking names."

Well, since then, a lot has changed. After about the thirteenth nephew/niece, me and my other siblings decided to sit down and come up with a three step strategy for naming our children. The steps are as follows:

1. First, we decide on a naming scheme for all of our children that we plan on having. For example, all of my sister's kids' names start with the letter C for boys and A for girls. For my naming scheme, I chose to make my daughters' initials spell out their nickname/name. My daughter Danielle's initials are D. A. N. I. and my daughter Hali's initials are H. A. L. I.

2. Next, we come up with a list of names that fit our naming scheme. For this step, we found a list of baby names and chose names that fit our naming scheme. We wrote down names that we liked without getting each other's opinion on the name. We would stop choosing names when each of us has about five names each that.

3. The third and final step is to compare the lists. If there are any names that match... then BINGO! If not, then we would narrow the list down, one by one until we get a BINGO!

It is very important that both parents agree on the name. If one parent doesn't like the name, it may make that parent harbor a deep rooted dislike for the child (its a possibility).
